Tascas 🍖

Tascas are the traditional Porto restaurants, completely out of the tourist routes where you can enjoy the best genuine foods locals eat in Porto. Expect super low prices on food and drinks and a vast selection of specialities that I will describe for each individual spot. Forget all about the fancy looks or the Instagramable places, you are about to exit your comfort zone and enter Porto’s wildest side in terms of gastronomy!

Casa Expresso

“Casa Expresso” is one of the most traditional Tascas in Porto. It does have a restaurant as well but the specialties of this place are all centered in the Tasca itself. The specialty here is “Rojões”, which is a a part of the pork cooked for many hours. “Rojões” in most other places are cut in small pieces because this is a part of the pork that is not very tender, but here they make huge pieces, cooked for many, many hours so they can’t get more tender and flavorous. Prices are incredibely cheap!

Adega Rio Douro

“Adega Rio Douro” is one of Porto’s most well kept secrets, mainly because it is out of the city center, although easily accessible by Uber or by Tram (that departs from Ribeira along the river to the seaside). It is actually one of the oldest and most famous Fado Music places in Porto, although only on Tuesdays afternoons you get Fado concerts. They have many specialties here, but the most famous one is called “Iscas” which is a piece of codfish fried with egg and flower. Absolutely delicous! The incredible views to the river is also a plus in this amazing place. Prices are also incredibely cheap.

Casa Louro

“Casa Louro” is a typical Porto tasca located on our kind of Red Light District street. Just above São Bento train station this peculiar place has the best Chorizo (Salpicão in Portuguese) and the best prosciutto in town. Cutted in super thin layers, these specialties will make your day with a glass of regional red wine. Prices are quite cheap, probably no tourists will be seen inside, and due to its uniqueness this is indeed an instagrammable place.
